This may not be groundbreaking news to the outside world but Ella ate green pepper today. Usually its impossible to get her to try things - Ella is fussy and stubborn. She's been offered green pepper many times before and had always refused to try. Unfortunately, I do not think she will be having green pepper again anytime soon.
Darby came home from school early because he wasn't feeling well so I rented him Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster and Space Chimps 2. These are not classics; regardless, they were loved. Darby is feeling better, so he is definitely going to school tomorrow.

Hockey Awards Night

Tonight was the Powell River Minor Hockey Awards night. All the minor hockey players assemble at the complex, speeches are made, various awards presented and sweaters are returned. I decided to snap a quick one with their sweaters on before we left. At some point in the night while I was snapping photos I noticed the battery was low. I had a spare ready and replaced the battery. I snapped a few more. Towards the end, once each of the kids had been on stage with their respective teams I handed the camera to Marla proud of the photos I had taken. She noticed there were only six photos! There should have been a few hundred! When I switched batteries I must have erased everything - obviously not on purpose. In any case, I fortunately found a program online called "Handy Recovery" and I am able to see all the photos that got erased on the SD card. However I can only recover one photo per day for a trial period which is I think is only a week. Do you think I should buy this or just let the old photos dissappear? Or does anyone know a better solution for recovering photos from an SD card that has somehow been "erased".

Ella on the ice
Below is a video of Ella playing hockey March 13th, 2011. It was her second last ice time of her first season of hockey. When she began playing in October Ella could not skate at all. We had made the decision to skip skating lesson because we felt that those lessons never really helped the boys much.
I have found a video that Darby made early in the season; you can judge how much progress she made. Skipping skating lessons was a great decision.

Douglas Fir
This past weekend Declan participated in a hockey tournament in Gibsons, BC. The schedule was such that he had only one game on Saturday morning. Because Gibsons is just a short 40 minute boat ride away from Vancouver, we had decided to spend the afternoon at Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park. Unfortunately, Darby could not be with us as he was back in Powell River playing in a hockey tournament of his own. Darby's team fared better than Declan's as Darby won a bronze medal and Declan's didn't win a game. Declan did earn a personal sportsmanship award though! If only it were possible to be in two places at once. This is a picture of Declan and Ella at the base of Douglas fir trees in the park.
And of course we crossed the Capilano Suspension Bridge. That's Declan peering off to the left alone in the centre of the bridge. Close to the bottom of the picture you can see the back of little blond Ella wearing a brown coat as well as Grandma in the green jacket. Yes, the bridge bounced and swayed while you walked across.
